Sheriff Tiraspol marked his debut in the Champions League group stage sweetly. Shakhtar Donetsk as their opponent, they managed to subdue with a landslide score of 2-0 at the Boshaya Sportivnaya Arena Stadium, Moldova, Thursday, September 16 in the morning WIB.
The hosts looked confident going into their debut match in Europe’s top flight and immediately took the lead through Adama Traore in the 16th minute. The goal was born after Traore met Cristiano’s cross with a volley.
Shakhtar as the visitors actually controlled the match with 75 percent possession of the ball and had 20 attempted shots (3 on goal, 11 off the mark, and 6 blocked). But none of them can be solved perfectly.
Until the 69th minute, the Sheriff even doubled the advantage through Momo Yansane’s sharp header which was again created thanks to Cristiano’s cross. The score of 2-0 did not change until the game ended because the Sheriff also appeared to defend well.
This result makes Sheriff perched at the top of Group D standings with a collection of 3 points and +2 goal difference. Real Madrid had to accept being under them because they were only able to win 1-0 over Inter Milan.
