Sergio Reguilon was the first to whisper to the referee during a ‘medical emergency’ during the Newcastle vs Tottenham match . Reguilon admitted that he could not continue the match by looking at the conditions in the stands.
Newcastle underwent their ‘debut’ as a sultan’s club by hosting Tottenham at St James Park, Sunday (17/10/2021) night WIB. However, in the 8th week of the Premier League, the Magpies lost 3-2.
Newcastle fans are very enthusiastic about this match. They wanted to celebrate the club’s acquisition of Mike Ashley by the Public Investment Fund owned by Mohammed Bin Salman, a crown prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
How can it be a medical emergency?
St James Park was filled with Newcastle fans eager to witness the club’s new era. However, an incident occurred in the stands. An onlooker needed medical help and the situation immediately became boisterous.
Referee Andre Marriner then made the decision to stop the match. He gave time for the medics to help the audience. Then, the stadium announced a ‘medical emergency’ situation in the East Stand area.
After the situation was under control, Newcastle announced that the spectators were being treated appropriately and in good condition. “Supporters requiring emergency medical attention are stable and are being taken to hospital. Our thoughts are with them,” the club said on its official Twitter account.
Reguilon Whisper to the Referee
Referee Marriner’s decision to stop the match could not be separated from the whispers of Sergio Reguilon. The Spaniard was the first to tell Marriner about the incident in the stands. Then, several other players followed.
“I saw the guy lying down. I was nervous,” Reguion opened up on Sky Sports .
“I went to the referee and said ‘look at that, we can’t play in this condition, we have to stop the game’. I saw the fans screaming ‘stop-stop’. I looked up and said, ‘He’s lying down, that’s not good. ..please stop the game,” continued the former Sevilla player.
